TETA Launches National Motorbike Road Safety Campaign
The Transport Education and Training Authority (TETA) is proud to announce the launch of a comprehensive National Motorbike Road Safety Campaign as part of the country's Transport Month activities this October.
As the gig economy continues to expand, motorbike delivery riders have become a critical component of South Africa's logistics and transport ecosystem. Despite their essential role, they remain among the most vulnerable road users. This campaign seeks to equip motorbike delivery riders with vital defensive riding skills, road safety knowledge, and practical safety protocols to help ensure their safety on South African roads.
The campaign will be rolled out across multiple provinces, including Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and the Western Cape, building on the success of previous roadshows conducted in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal. Through this initiative, TETA aims to create a lasting national impact by promoting safer riding practices and reducing road-related incidents involving motorbike delivery riders.
The official launch and inaugural training session will take place at Savannah Mall, Polokwane, Limpopo, on Friday, 30 October 2026, from 10:00.
This important road safety initiative is being implemented through collaboration with key stakeholders, including the South African Police Service (SAPS), provincial and local Traffic Departments, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and leading insurance companies.
Together, these partners are committed to strengthening road safety awareness and preparedness ahead of the festive season.
TETA remains committed to advancing skills development, promoting safer transport operations, and supporting initiatives that contribute to the well-being of workers within the transport sector.
