Our Priorities and Key Achievements

Priorities and Key Achievements

Our priorities centre around the fourth industrial revolution, revenue diversification, road safety, employer participation, transformation, SMME/entrepreneurship, strategic partnerships, pandemics, TVET partnerships, Africa free trade. The following are some of our key achievements in the 2021/22 financial year.

  1. Bursaries: A total of 479 learners will be funded for the 2021/22 academic year until completion to the value of R76 983 750.00
  2. Skills programmes employed: A total of 729 learners have been funded for different skills to the value of R 18 048 078.70
  3. Skills programmes unemployed: A total of 2380 learners have been funded for driver skills programmes to the value of R11 723 450.00
  4. Learnership employed: A total of 1918 learners have been funded to the value of R23 562 438.00
  5. Learnership unemployed: A total of 2543 learners have been funded to the value of R55 242 800.00
  6. Artisan Development programme: A total of 658 learners have been funded to the value of R13 423 500.00
  7. Cadetship programme (Marine): A total of 95 learners have been funded to the value of R14 635 000.00
  8. Work Integrated Programme: Internships, Workplace Experience & Graduate Development: A total of 1411 learners have been funded to the value of R35 515 600.00
  9. AET Programme: A total of 628 learners have been funded towards the AET programme to the value of R13 873 500.00
 

Road Passenger Chamber

The Executive Officer of TETA’s Road Passenger Chamber is Noma Sejake. Sejake, with her team based in Randburg, oversees the implementation of TETA’s mandate in the Eastern Cape.

About the Road Passenger Subsector

All road passenger transport services rendered by means of mini-buses and buses makeup the bus industry as defined in the National Land Transport Transition Act. The industry includes long distance bus services, tour and charter bus services, cross-border bus services, intercity bus services, school/learner bus services, commercial contract bus services, special hire or private hire bus services, subsidised and non-subsidised bus services, and scheduled and unscheduled bus services

Entities involved in rendering passenger bus services include privately owned bus operations, listed bus operations, state-owned bus operations, municipal bus services or bus operations owned by metropolitan authorities, parastatals and provincial authorities.

Significant features of the sector are that it:

  • Transports people and their personal goods to different parts of the country;
  • Provides mobility to millions of people who require access to different services such as schooling, employment, hospitals etc.;
  • Contributes vastly to the economic and social development of south africa.

The Executive Officer of TETA’s Freight Handling Chamber is Lazarus Dladla. Dladla, with his team based in Durban, oversees the implementation of TETA’s mandate in KwaZulu Natal.

TETA
 

TETA was established in terms of the Skills Development Act 97 of 1998 (SDA). It is a public entity that reports to the Minister of Higher Education and Training and operates under the oversight of National Treasury in terms of performance management and financial administration. TETA is a Sector Education Training Authority (SETA) responsible for skills development in the transport sector.
